Map policy
Proxy Republic is a fictional war game played on the real world map. This page says how the map is drawn, so that it reads as a rule and not as an opinion.
Borders
Borders follow who controls the ground, as drawn by Natural Earth, a public-domain dataset. We do not redraw them.
Disputed lands
Contested places are marked as disputed lands. A disputed land is on the map but belongs to no nation: nobody can found a nation there, it starts every campaign neutral, and it goes to whoever takes it in the game. This is the one rule that treats every side of a dispute the same way. It is not a position on the dispute.
Disputed lands this season:
- Abkhazia
- Crimea
- Kosovo
- Northern Cyprus
- Somaliland
- Transnistria
- Western Sahara
Nations and provinces
A nation is a country. The largest countries are divided into provinces named after their regions; a province is land to fight over, never a nation. Taiwan and Palestine (West Bank and Gaza) are playable nations. Dependencies and microstates too small to see at this scale are folded into their neighbours.
Conduct
Rivalry between nations is the game. Slurs, ethnic or religious stereotypes, and references to real-world wars, atrocities or politicians are not, for players and for AI generals alike.
